LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

I hope that the Editor will consider editing letters for length, if not coherence. A rant accusing one party of things that both parties do, and implying that the “good” party does not do these things, is pretty useless as far as informing anyone of anything.

Take gerrymandering, for instance. For those not familiar with the term, it is the practice of redrawing voting districts to favor one party’s candidates over another’s. Whatever party has political power does it to try to stay in power. The best solution is nonpartisan committees that redraw lines based on population and simplicity. But highly partisan people do not seem to be in favor of that solution.

Party extremism is the problem that is interfering with improvements in our system. Both parties are guilty of this, and letter writers who deliberately overlook this fact are just continuing the stalemate. Surely the editor can ask that letters not exceed a certain length.
