Bandera Library Happenings
The Bandera Public Library is so pleased to announce the first author visit we have hosted in over a year.
Come by the Library on Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to meet local author Joanne Kukanza Easley.
The Medina-based author will be signing books and speaking about her newest novel, “Just One Look,” set to be released on June 24.
Her first novel, “Sweet Jane,” won the first prize in Adult Fiction in the 2020 Texas Author project.
“Just One Look” is set in Chicago in 1965 and tells the story of Dani Marek, who has fallen totally in love. For six years, she prepares her hope chest for this boy. But then things go awry.
Dani decides to take revenge on all men, seeking them out in single bars on Chicago’s Rush Street. This plans dead-ends in a loveless marriage that ends in yet another tragedy.
Now, at only twenty-four, Dani finds herself a widow, a small baby to care for and not one, but two ghosts to contend with.
On Friday, June 25, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the library will be hosting a FALL talk. The STRAC Fall Awareness Lengthens Lives (FALL) program is designed to teach strategies and tips to prevent falls.
Learn how to identify slip, trip or fall hazards and review medications that might leave you susceptible to falls. You can register for this event, which is being held in the Downstairs Meeting Room, by calling 830-796-4213.
Summer Reading Program is just around the corner. Are your kiddos registered yet? There is still plenty of space for little ones aged four to 12. Also, don’t forget to pick up your Reading Log for the Adult and Teen Summer Reading Challenge. Checkout and read books in the 25 categories and win a $25 gift card to the Dough Joe.
The Bandera Public Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checkouts and business services. We are requesting those who are not fully vaccinated to wear a mask while in the library. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Check out www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
Happy tales, y’all. Mauri Guillen Fagan is the Director of the Bandera Public Library.
