Event raises thousands for local veterans
The Red Horse Saloon was the home of the Ride & Rise Above Fundraiser on Sunday, April 29, which featured a motorcycle ride, auctions, music and other ongoings that brought in over $30,000 for groups supporting local veterans.
“This is our eighth, annual event and we picked Red Horse Saloon for this year’s venue,” said Nick Barron, USMC (Ret) Chief of Operations for Ride & Rise Above.
Barron said the event proceeds will assist veterans receive treatment for depression; the event also supports programs that directly support veterans in need of treatment.
“We had 67 people taking part in the ride, which is really good,” Barron said.
At 10 a.m, over 65 riders departed to the Cocky Rooster Bar in Comfort, returning early in the afternoon to enjoy BBQ, auctions, raffles and a band.
Military members Jeff and Lina Urquhart from San Antonio were present at the event and took their motorcycle along to the rally.
“This was our first rally and we are coming back next year,” said Jeff.
