Trial set for indicted GOP leaders
The State of Texas v Conrad John Streigl and Cari Renae Leith has been given a trial date of June 20 at 9 a.m., according to documents involving the two cases filed with the Bandera County District Clerk A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for April 17, and another for June 19 for both Striegl and Leith, who were indicted last January for fraudulent securing of document execution, a state felony given the amount of money involved.
Striegl and Leith currently serve in the Bandera County Republican Party as the party’s chair and treasurer, respectively.
In the first meeting of the party following the indictment last February, Striegl said there had been a straw poll among the precinct chairs, with 70 percent concurring he and Leith should remain in their positions.
Both Streigl and Leith were given felony bond conditions that required both to
• Have no contact with the plaintiff
• Not enter a drinking establishment or bar section of any restaurant or eating establishment
• Abide by a curfew of being inside one’s residence between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Not possess or consume alcohol, liquor, narcotics, drugs not prescribed or other intoxicants.
• Not violate any state or federal laws
• Not possess firearm or ammo The pair’s lawyer, Roy R. Barrera, filed a motion requesting deletion of the clause involving entering a drinking establishment, the curfew, consuming liquor (no objections to the other substances) and possession of guns and ammo.
The Bandera County Republican meets next on May 11 at 7 p.m.
