Turkey and trimmings in Lakehills
The 10th annual Lakehills Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 25th was a tremendous success, according to Kelly Beedle of Hill Country Samaritans, who took over coordinating duties two years ago from the Quesada family, who originated the event in 2011.
After volunteers baked and cooked on Tuesday and Wednesday, nearly 300 meals were served at the Thanksgiving Day event, an uptick from 250 in 2020 and 2019.
“Sharing the holiday with family, friends and neighbors was delightful. Truly there is so much to be thankful for,” she said.
Beedle said that most meals were enjoyed in person, while some went the to-go route. Additionally, meals were delivered to some who could not leave their homes and to local workers in the area who were on shift through the midday.
Those who enjoyed the event in-person at the Lakehills Community Center last week were able to enjoy time together, delicious holiday food, beautiful themed decorations and live music.
Much of that music came from the Hurlin family children, who have now played at the event for seven years.
“The kids started out acapella (without instrumental help) and a number of them learned over time to use musical instruments,” said dad Bill Hurlin.
