Utopia releases school year policies
Utopia Independent School District recently released a letter regarding their plan to open school on August 19.
The letter, from Superintendent Michael Derry, informs parents that only face-to-face learning will be available all enrolled students.
The letter confirms that the district will follow all guidance from the Texas Education Agency, the University Interscholastic League, and the Centers for Disease Control.
Students will not be required to wear masks.
Attendance will be taken daily.
The cafeteria will be adding more tables and outside seating will continue to be allowed to make social distancing available.
Students in athletics and PE will not be required to wear masks at this time in accordance with UIL and district 31A guidelines.
Hand sanitizer will be provided before and after recess for students.
There will be limited sharing of school supplies and sanitation of classrooms, buses and outdoor areas will continue throughout the day and after school.
Visitation to the campuses will be limited, and all visitors will be required to check in through the principal’s secretary.
If a student becomes symptomatic during the school day, they will report to the school’s health professional who will isolate the student, and their parents will be contacted.
Any confirmed cases of COVID-19 will be treated like confirmed cases of the influenza virus.
