Whiskey Tango Foxtrot BBQ, or WTF BBQ for short, announced they will be closing their doors for business, officially, on August 28, citing increase in meat and supply costs.

“We appreciate everyone who has supported us,” read a Facebook post from the veteran-owned location. “Unfortunately, without a severe price increase in our food and a drop in quality, we will no longer be able to keep our doors open.”

Co-owner Marcus Dees explained that in order to keep up with the increases, they would have to raise the prices of all their meats by 30 percent or more, a move they know this market cannot support.

“We have truly enjoyed our time here but will cease the BBQ operation until it’s feasible to offer our barbeque at a price that’s affordable to the consumers in this area,” said Dees.

He added the Eagle’s Nest, their pub business that is next door to WTF, will stay open.

“It will remain open simply because it does well and we haven’t seen the same price increase on that side of the business,” said Dees.

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, beef saw a massive increase in price – currently up a 36 percent from last year.

Per eatthis.com, the mammoth price increase is due to multiple factors such as severe drought in the upper Midwest pastureland, high gasoline prices and old-fashioned price gouging by the few companies controlling the beef industry.

Local regulars and lovers of WTF are sad to see it go.

“Ya’ll brought the best in smoked meats and will be missed!” said one of their Facebook followers.

“This is heartbreaking. Easily the best BBQ spot in that part of the hill country,” shared another.

Marcus told the Bulletin WTF will be operating the food trailer in the San Antonio area in a yet-to-be determined location.
