EDWARD RENE GOMEZ

Edward Rene Gomez of Bandera, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Riverview Nursing Home and Rehab in Boerne, Texas. He was born on May 4, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas to Olivia Sanchez and Charles Mario Gomez.

He married Irma Ramirez in San Antonio, Texas on February 6, 1971.

Edward proudly served with the San Antonio Police Department for 23 years, during this time Edward shared his faith while working with the police ministry, he spent a lot of time in downtown San Antonio as a traffic police officer, reaching out to the less fortunate to tell them about the Lord, and even taking them to church. He continued to serve his community, becoming the interim pastor for Calvary Baptist Church in San Antonio. He will always be remembered for his kindness, selflessness, and profound love he had for his family; he would do anything and everything for them.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Irma Gomez; daughter, Rebekah Holsey; sons, Edward R. Gomez Jr. and Charles Nicholas Gomez; sister, Beatrice Penn and husband Monty; brothers, Steven Gomez and his wife Barbara, and Charles Mario Gomez Jr.; and grandchildren, Cadence Rene Holsey, Robert Lynn Holsey Jr., Camryn Marie Holsey, and Aurora Claire Holsey, and many nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Olivia Gomez and Charles Mario Gomez, and daughter, Melissa Ann Gomez.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel.
