Genevieve Jane Modarelli, 73, of Lakehills Texas passed away on June 21, 2022 in her home in Lakehills. She was born in Bandera, Texas to Hubert and Catherine Dugosh on August 14, 1948.

She grew up in Bandera and had a distinguished professional career working for Southwestern Bell/ AT&T in San Antonio. During 1975 she was promoted to Business Office Manager and moved to Harlingen, Texas.

After several years, she was promoted to Area Manager-Business Office in McAllen, Texas. In 1987 the McAllen office was closed. Genevieve returned to San Antonio as Area Manager-Division Staff. Later Genevieve accepted a promotion to District Manager—Human Resources and subsequently retired early in June, 2001.

After retirement she became very involved with church activities. Her favorite activity involved sewing prayer blankets for people that were ill or in need of spiritual comfort. She also became heavily involved with the education system serving multiple terms as BISD Board member and Board President.

Along with tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, Genevieve’s favorite activity was celebrating July 4th at her place. She had the entire family over to enjoy the lake, good food, watch the fireworks and make good memories. With this in mind, it is not too late to honor her happy day at her service. We invite everyone to skip the fancy dress and suit and wear your red, white and blue.

Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband Sylvester (Bud) Modarelli Jr.

Genevieve is survived by her daughter Shelly and Brad Sellars, and granddaughter Maia; three brothers, Richard, Roy, Danny and five sisters, Elizabeth, Albina, Josephine, Lucille and Mary along with numerous nieces and nephews.

These are some of the comments people have shared with us about our sweet sister.

“I’m up thinking about Genevieve. I think it’s amazing during her life she made people feel so special and even when she died she had a sense of peace and joy. She inspired me to be better and I’m thankful that I was blessed enough to know her for as little as I did. Very few people make that big of an impact in that short a time. I feel very certain that she is watching over all of you.”

“Beloved Aunt Genevieve, beautiful saint of souls which we were able to make memories with by the grace of God. She was a truly caring, hard working, helpful and above all loving woman, with a healthy side of stubborn. She was a cherished member of the family that will be greatly missed. We can all gain peace and solace knowing she is up in heaven. She had everything figured out. Everything she did was for family and friends.”

Services will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera on July 16,2022 beginning at 8:30a.m. with the Rosary and Mass followed by grave site services at the Catholic Cemetery located next to 809 Hwy. 1077.

Saint Victors and St. Stanislaus Catholic Church are hosting a bereavement luncheon at St. Josephs Hall, located next to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by check payable to St. Vincent De Paul and mailed to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 602 7th St. Bandera, TX 78003.

P.S. We all know we need rain. Genevieve is in heaven with God and we know how persistent she can be. If anyone can get him to give us relief she can. Genevieve is on it!
