Jimmie F. Mayhew, age 73, passed away at his home in Pipe Creek surrounded by his family on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019.

He recently had celebrated 50 years of marriage with his wife, Wanda. He was fondly known as “Popie” by family and friends.

He was born on Sept.

7, 1946 in San Antonio to James F. and Gywndolyn (Wilborn) Mayhew.

After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years.

During that time, he did three tours in Vietnam and was awarded various metals and four Bronze Stars.

After the Navy, he went to Weatherford College where he received his degree in nursing. Up until his retirement, he was a practicing LVN.

On July 9, 1969, he married Wanda Stinedurf in Mercer, Pennsylvania. Together they had one son. Popie enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Wanda, son Terry Mayhew and wife Sharon, of Las Vegas, granddaughters Patricia Doss and husband Jeramie, of Bandera, and Kursta Mayhew and Trey Emerson of Pipe Creek, great-grandchildren, Karley, Stormee, Nolan, Allison and Hank, sisters Shirley Martin and husband Keith, of Pipe Creek, and Robin Pringle and husband Bryant, of San Antonio, and many nieces and nephews.
