Eagles beat Bobcats as playoffs loom
In a “comeback kids” style of play, the Medina boys basketball team played with strong heart against a tough Leakey team last Friday, with the lead switching back and forth throughout the game.
With the game within one point with 2:26 left, the Leakey Eagles pulled away with a 51-46 victory.
Coach Bill Carter credited the loss to Bobcat turnovers.
“In the final stanza the Bobcats’ press got the blue and gold back in the game tying it 42-42 with three minutes left. However, the Eagles used free throws and two three-point buckets to pull away in the final minutes,” he said.
The Bobcats traveled to Rocksprings for their final regular season game on Tuesday. Results of that game were not available by the Bulletin’s press deadline.
A win would tie them for the fourth playoff position in the district with Nueces Canyon. If that is the case, a tie-breaker will be played Thursday to determine the district’s fourth playoff team.
