Lady Bulldogs destroy Stockdale
The Bandera Lady Bulldogs took charge of the court on Friday night against the Stockdale Lady Brahmas winning the game 69 to Stockdale’s 37. Stockdale started out the game with two quick baskets from the lane, but Bandera came roaring back with an answering three-pointer from Summer Haby.
From that point on the Lady Bulldogs controlled the game and showed some excellent defensive play while piling up the offensive points. Estella Calderon had an outstanding game converting many turnover situations into fast break points.
Izabel Kennedy came to play and was a standout player during the first quarter. Gabriella Barrera came off the bench and showed serious hustle while scoring another Bandera three pointer. Taylor Hamilton came in briefly and scored under the basket. Cameryn Ouellette came off the bench to add some spice to the play. Her scrappy style fit right in. The quarter ended with Bandera scoring 25 to Stockdale’s 13.
To start the second quarter senior Katie Dibrell scored a 3 pointer from the baseline. Kennedy, Haby and Cameryn Ouellette all scored two-point shots. The Bulldogs showed some serious hustle under the basket. Calderon deflected a Stockdale pass and directed it to Haby who went to the goal. Barrera drilled in a 3 pointer before the half to make the score 45 for Bandera and 23 for Stockdale.
The Lady Bulldogs came back after the half ready to go. Estella Calderon and Summer Haby worked in tandem to both score baskets from the field. Stockdale showed reliable three-point shooting and used those points to add to their score but could never whittle down the lead that the Lady Bulldogs had built up. Taylor Hamilton came back after half time to block a Lady Brahma shot under the basket and recover several rebounds. Summer Haby showed a lot of heads up play and began to intercept Stockdale’s passes. Tatum Trevino ended the quarter with a goal from the lane. The third quarter ended with Stockdale showing 29 on the scoreboard to Bandera’s 54.
During the 4th quarter, the Lady Bulldogs added 15 points while Stockdale only came up with 8. Summer Haby showed great ball handling and was a cornerstone in the Bulldog win. Estella Calderon is the whole package – shooting, ball handling, and defensive play leader. Even though Calderon is one of the shortest ladies on the court, she recovers more than her fair share of rebounds. She shows a scrappy, aggressive style of play that is a model for the other players. Trevino, Edwards, Cameryn Ouellette, and Katie Dibrell all added to the score on a regular basis. The Bulldogs ended the game with a final score of 69 to Stockdale’s 37.
The Lady Bulldogs traveled to San Antonio to play the Young Women’s Leadership Academy on Tuesday, December 14, and will return to the Bulldog gym on Friday, December 17, to play the Hondo Lady Owls.
