Billies batter Lady Bulldogs
The Bandera Lady Bulldogs ran into the buzzsaw that is the Fredericksburg Lady Billies on Friday night, losing 85-23.
Fredericksburg started off the game with a quick three pointer. Bandera made its first score at the 4:29 minute mark from a Cameryn Oullette two pointer. The Lady Bulldogs appeared fatigued, and their shooting did not have the mojo needed to find the basket. Calie Tripp had a save and a steal but otherwise the Bulldogs only made one more shot to go into the second quarter 4 points to Fredericksburg’s 19 points.
Estella Calderon came out in the second quarter ready to play and showed her signature physicality when it came to mixing it up with Fredericksburg. She scored a two and then made a single foul shot to bring the Bulldogs to 7 on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Calderon was injured at the 3-minute mark and sat out the rest of the second quarter leaving the Lady Bulldogs to try to hold back the Lady Billy shooters. The second quarter ended with Bandera scoring 7 to Fredericksburg’s 39.
Coming back from half time, Calderon got back into the game and immediately scored a foul shot. Summer Haby threw in a two-point shot from the lane and senior Avery Ouellette had a steal. The score at the six-minute mark was Bandera 10 to Fredericksburg’s 42. Summer Haby made another two and put a foul shot through the goal. Taylor Hamilton got on the court and began to fight under the basket for the ball. Hamilton has a lot of unrealized potential on the court and is starting to understand that her job as center is to deny the Bulldogs’ opponents any shots or rebounds. To end the quarter Calderon drew a Fredericksburg foul but could only put one through the hoop. The Lady Bulldogs had a score of 14 while the Lady Billies had 59 points.
Shooting by the Lady Bulldogs was lackluster at best during the 4th quarter. Summer Haby picked up a roll and pass from Calderon to score a two. Calderon came back with a sweet three pointer. The Lady Bulldogs suffered from a lot of passing errors against the Lady Billies.
At the three-minute mark, the score was 19 to 76 in favor of the Lady Billies. Calie Tripp drew a Fredericksburg foul but could only put in one of the two shots. A weary Summer Haby rolled up to put a two pointer in and had a one-point foul shot. The end of the game brought the end of the pain as the Lady Bulldogs trudged to the locker room.
Coach Sells is going to have a tough “row to hoe” as she works with the Lady Bulldogs this week and prepares them for two powerhouse district games against Boerne and Wimberley.
