On any given day there, are 20-25 veterans in the two local nursing and rehabilitation facilities, officials with the Bandera American Legion Post 157 said.
The Bandera American Legion Auxiliary Unit 157 makes monthly visits to the veterans, providing them with clothing and toiletry items as well as homemade baked goods and snacks.
More importantly, they provide smiles and much-needed company.
Some of these veterans have outlived their families, and their only visitors are often religious and veteran oriented nonprofit organizations, officials at the local post said.
