The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TWPD) and the Texas A&M Forest Service are stressing the need for caution in an effort to avoid wildfires during this year’s hunting season.
More than 2.4 million hunting and fishing licenses are sold in Texas annually, according to parks and wildlife officials, and the increased movement of people into natural areas heightens the risk for fires.
TWPD noted people, and their activities, cause more than 90 percent of Texas wildfires, and hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts should be mindful during activities that could start wildfires.
