KENNETH D. D’SPAIN
Kenneth Doyle D’Spain of Bandera, Texas passed away on May 24, 2021. He was born in Brady, Texas on June 6, 1938. He was the son of Nimrod “Doc” Johnson D’Spain and Otelia Pool. He was the brother of LaVern Wharton, Carol D’Spain and Willard D’Spain.
Kenneth attended four years at Bandera High School where he excelled in football, basketball, track and golf. With Coach Waldrum and great football team, Kenneth was awarded several scholarships. He attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas and SWTSTC in San Marcos. Kenneth was in a great class that have continue to remain friends and was voted class favorite and best dancer. He met his sweetheart in High School and they were married May 28, 1959 at Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church. His daughter inherited his love of dance and his 3 sons just happened to get his good looks. Kenneth was a Star Bull Rider and participated in the FFA Rodeos and won All Around Champion all 4 years. He continued to Bull Riding in college. Kenneth’s first job was with Texas Reserve Life Insurance as an IBM computer operator and as his family grew he accepted a job with Continental Oil Company at the Purple Sage Ranch in Bandera for nearly 10 years. Betty and Kenneth then moved the family to Green River, Wyoming, and they enjoyed living there for nearly 40 years. During their time in Wyoming, Kenneth coached football and softball and the family developed many friendships that endure today. Betty and Kenneth retired back to Bandera, Texas in 2008 after Kenneth retired from a 35-year career at General Chemical (now Tata Chemicals) in Green River, Wyoming and Betty retired as a Director from the American Cancer Society.
Kenneth is pre-deceased by his mother and father and his brother, Carol. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Betty D’Spain and his children Kenny, Rodney, Robert, and Daphne. He is also survived by his grandchildren Tyler, Andrew, Chantalle, Taylor, Matthew, Ethan, Kendric, Keenan, and Declan and his great-granddaughter, Lyra.
Kenneth was a gentle, kind, loving person and he loved his family so much. His stories and his memory will eternally be our blessing.
On June 4, 2021 Grimes Funeral Chapels, Bandera, Texas, a visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m.
A rosary will be held at 2:00 p.m. and A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Masses will also be offered for Kenneth D’Spain in Green River, Wyoming, at the Immaculate Conception Church on June 14 at 8:30 a.m. and June 27, 2021 at 11 a.m.
