Popular fish fry returns

The Knights of Columbus Fish Fry is back serving hot fresh fish and all the fixin’s.
Starting on the first Friday in June the Knights of Columbus have resumed their monthly Fish Fry at St. Stanislaus Church. The only change is that the meal is presented in a drive through format.
“We are excited about it, and we are excited to do it as a takeout event,” Knight Mike Lloyd said.
The group set up a tent outside the building, and when a patron drove up, they paid, and a volunteer brought out their fresh meal in a takeout container.
The meal is the same: fish, cole slaw, fries, beans and hush puppies.
The drive through works very quickly, and no driver waited more than five minutes to get their food.
Out back, the Knights cooking the fish gathered around gleaming fryers purchased just for the event. In the building, the serving line up behind the counter made the takeout plates just as they had done in the past. Runners stepped to the counter and waited for a freshly made meal to be served up, and then delivered it to the waiting patron.
The fish fry funds local scholarships, helps seminarians and supports church projects according to Lloyd. He and the other Knights working showed a lot of enthusiasm and a hearty spirit. All the Knights have been trained in food handling and safety to prepare for their return to serving the fish dinner.
Knight Mike Bottello remarked, “Our goal is to serve everything at the proper temperature and make sure the food is well prepared and safe.”
The Knights of Columbus Fish Fry will continue on the first Friday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m.
The meal cost is $9, though many patrons made additional donations to help the Knights recoup from the previous year.
“We look forward to being able to serve a sit-down meal whenever they let us do that again,” said Lloyd.
