Called to be Kings and Priests
Suppose you are driving on a highway after reading a magazine and hearing on TV that that the whole world is a chaotic mess full of corrupt governments and organized criminal gangs. No wonder decent families from all over the world are crossing our southern border to get away from it all and start over. Also, you have been pondering on God’s promise to Abraham in Romans 4:13 that he and his seed, Jesus and the Church, would be heir of the world, knowing God always keeps His promises. How can that be?
Then you happen to drive through a town and are shocked to see everyone is joyful and loving one another like Isaiah writes in 49:7-9, “Because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, He has chosen you (the townspeople of this joyful town) …….I will preserve you and give you as a covenant to the people of your state, nation, world to restore the earth, to cause them to inherit the desolate (worldly) heritages; that you may say to those in prison (bound up) ‘Go forth’ to those in darkness, ‘show yourselves.’”
Who did God choose to give leadership to the people of this town so that God has poured out His Spirit upon them to an intensity that they are caught up in a culture of revival that has spread throughout the town?
Such as:
Revelation 5:10: The Lamb “has made us kings and priests to our God, and we shall reign on earth.”
Revelation 1:5-6 “Jesus Christ has made us kings and priests to His God.”
Genesis 1:28 “God commands man to take dominion over everything that moves on earth.” We are now in training for reigning.
I can hear some of my readers saying, “What do you mean a king, I have to mow my yard this afternoon” or “I have to clean the kitchen” or tell me all of the reasons you can’t possibly reign on earth, too young or too old or handicapped or many other excuses, “My parents told me I wouldn’t amount to anything,” “I got fired from my last job”, “I got a divorce.” Consider these scriptures:
Ephesians 2:8, 10 God has placed in His children by grace the qualities of leadership that goes with reigning on earth, like a potter molding the clay into a masterpiece.
John 14:30 Jesus tells us Satan is the ruler of this world. However, in 1 Corinthians 6:2 Paul tells us the saints have been appointed to judge the world (systems not people).
2 Corinthians 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; Old things have passed way; behold, all things have become new.”
Who we are now.
1 Corinthians 1:27-28 “God has chosen the foolish things in the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things that are mighty, and the base things of the world and the things that are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are.” This is how we all start out on the road to becoming a king to reign on earth.
Luke 18:17 Jesus said “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”
Next week we will check this “calling” out with Biblical leaders.
