DAR chapter celebrates end of summer

The Major James Kerr Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held an end-of-summer luncheon recently at Mamacita’s Restaurant to allow members and interested women to reconnect before a busy all season begins.
“The influx of new residents in the Hill Country area has been of great benefit to the local DAR Chapter,” said Chapter Regent Lynn Chambers. Women of all ages and backgrounds have expressed an interest in becoming involved. Currently, there are twenty women in the process of preparing their applications for membership.”
Those new and prospective members are from Kerrville, Bandera, Comfort, Hondo, Hunt, Ingram, Medina and Comfort, according to a DAR press release. Additionally, recent transfers have joined from DAR chapters throughout Texas and Georgia.
In attendance at the meeting were three generations of new members from one family: 90-year-old grandmother Mary Heard, daughter Sue Tolbert and granddaughter Kristen Andreason. All three joined together and had their applications approved on the same day.
Kristen said, “We are excited and can’t wait to get involved!”
The September meeting of the Major James Kerr Chapter will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, with details to be announced.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a patriotic, historical and educational organization made up of members 18 years or older who can trace their ancestry through genealogy back to involvement in the American Revolutionary War. Anyone is welcome to join regardless of race or creed.
