DRT chapter celebrates 25th anniversary
The Joshua D. Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) will commemorate the 25th anniversary of its founding with a celebration at the historic Union Church building on the campus of Schreiner University on Saturday, September 25, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Former and prospective members are welcome to attend by RSVPing to Chapter President Judy McVay at 830-537-3742 or jmcvay@gvtc.com.
There will be refreshments served along with a video presentation and activities for attendees.
The chapter was organized on January 9, 1996, in Kerrville and has steadily grown from 26 original members to 150 members today.
The first chapter meeting of the 2021-22 term will be held on September 27 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Drive in Kerrville.
There will be no speaker this month, as this will be a business meeting to plan the activities for the coming year.
However, any woman having attained her 16th birthday is eligible to apply for membership, if she is a lineal descen dent of a man or woman who rendered loyal service for Texas prior to the consummation of the Annexation Agreement of the Republic of Texas with the United States of America on February 19, 1846. The chapter is ready to provide assistance in proving ancestry during the Republic era to any prospective member upon application for membership.
