Early addresses Republican Women

Kellie Early, District Director for Representative Andrew Murr was the main speaker at the September meeting of the Bandera County Republican Women (BCRW), talking at length on the accomplishments of the legislative session and about Representative Murr.

Over 600 new laws went into effect on September 1. Early mentioned the passage of the election integrity bill and the consensus across the aisle for a balanced budget. She noted House Bill 1927, which gives every Texan the right to carry a handgun, concealed or in a holster, if they are not prohibited by law and are not in places where guns are regularly prohibited, like a school.

She also included the passage of the COVID-based telemedicine bill and House Bill 3572, which provides access to health insurance for individuals and small businesses who have no other options.

Early also spoke about budget money designated for new generators to help upgrade equipment used by power companies in inclement weather.

BCRW President Carolyn Rutherford updated the group on the progress of the nominating committee. She asked for one more volunteer to serve on the committee.

During the October meeting, the committee will present a report, and nominations will be accepted for the officer positions.

During the November meeting, the membership will vote on the new officers; installation will take place during the December meeting.

Officer reports were excluded due to time constraints.

Rutherford reminded the group that the last day to register to vote was October 4 for the election on November 2.

She noted that September 28 is National Voter Registration Day. The club plans various activities around the county at registration sites.

Rutherford also reminded the club about the booths at Bandera Market Days, Lakehills Community Days and Cajunfest. She encouraged members to sign up to work in the BCRW booth on those days and asked members to make plans to ride on the float in the Veterans Day Parade.

The club approved funds necessary to purchase a laptop computer for the Club Treasurer.

Laura Briscoe donated a new lectern to the club and a sound system to the Silver Sage to be used to benefit all meetings with speakers.

The speaker for the October 7 meeting is Carey Reed. She will speak on the Angel Tree Project on Thursday, October 7, at the Silver Sage Community Center.
