Faith and Freedom club meets
Pastor Justin Lee Carpenter of Cross Kingdom Church in Kerrville spoke to the Faith and Freedom meeting at the Medina Library on November 8.
Carpenter began Cross Kingdom Ministries in 2013 and began a full church plan in 2016. He encouraged the group to lay out a road map to achieve goals related to serving the community. He reminded the group that nothing significant has ever happened without prayer.
Carpenter expressed concern that there was a whole generation of Americans who were unfamiliar with Christian teachings. He said, “We are in a crisis of identity in our nation.”
Group organizer Vicki Shroyer spoke about the creation of transitional housing for veterans in Medina.
A local couple has pledged to donate four acres for the creation of a place where homeless veterans can stay while they wait for subsidized housing.
In San Antonio, veterans can wait up to 18 months before housing becomes available.
Shroyer projects that veterans who seek transitional housing in the Hill Country could possibly wait from two weeks up to two months before they are able to get a permanent placement.
Aubri Reed spoke about Mercy Gate Ministries and the services that they offer to assist victims of sex trafficking.
Shroyer reminded club members about the community book being assembled to document the experiences of Medina residents during the devastating 1978 flood. Shroyer projects a part of the December club meeting will be dedicated to reading parts of the book.
Residents who have experiences in the 1978 flood are encouraged to contact Shroyer at 830-955-0960
