New COVID death reported

A new death attributed to COVID-19 in Bandera County by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is the 12th reported this year and brings the number since the start of the start pandemic to 77.

DSHS says there have been 2,558 cases of confirmed COVID-19 and 1,052 probable cases to date.

Of those cases, 684 confirmed and 266 were attributed to 2022.

While case counts are increasing throughout the state, Bandera County new case counts remain in the single digits, with Bandera County Emergency Management reporting only one new confirmed case last week.

Statewide, deaths doubled and hospitalizations dropped slightly last week compared to the previous week, according to the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University.

The county’s vaccination rate continues to inch toward 46 percent, with the latest numbers from DSHS saying 45.91 percent of the county’s population age five and up has been fully vaccinated as of Monday. April 11’s number was 45.91 percent.

In that same age demographic, 52.39 percent have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, up from 52.25 two weeks ago.
