I’m not going to lie to you. It’s going to get hotter. What better way to stay cool than by planning a movie night with your friends or family?

Come by the library for one of our newest take-and-make kits called Movie Night. Each bag includes two DVDs from different genres, a bag of popcorn and a couple of sweet treats. Each kit is labeled with the genre such as horror, family-friendly, science fiction, romantic comedies, and many more. It is a great way to check out some movies you might not have checked out and get a little time in the air conditioning.

Each week we publish a blog post on our website www. banderacountylibrary.org. The blog highlights a part of the collection and will have recommended reading if that particular subject interests you. The next time you are in the library, check out the recommended reading titles on the featured wall near the circulation desk. The blog has covered topics such as our homesteading and native gardening books, books on homeschooling, and the library’s collection of books on heart-healthy living.

Don’t forget to register you children ages 5 to 12 for the annual Summer Reading Program. This year’s program will be on Tuesdays starting June 7th until July 12th from 10 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. with the theme of “Oceans of Possibilities” featuring books about the ocean.

Kids get a chance to pick out their books for the week, do an activity, listen to a guest reader and participate in group arts and crafts. It’s not an all or nothing thing either. This year, the online registration form allows you to fill out what days your child will be able to participate, in case you already have any summer travel plans in place.

The online form can be found at https://banderacountylibrary.org/summer-2022 or you can stop by in person to pick up a hard copy. We also are still looking for volunteers for the Summer Reading Program. Volunteers can help facilitate the crafts, help kids check out their books and have a lot of fun! Please contact the library to get more information.

For adults and teens we also have our Summer Reading Challenge themed “Reading Around the World”. The library has a list of novels set in different parts of the world and the patron who can read the most of these titles from June 1 until August 31 will be awarded a gift card from a local restaurant. The title list will be released on June 1 so stop by the library to pick one up or check out the June monthly newsletter being sent out at the beginning of next month.

The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary. org for all up-to-date information.

Happy tales, y’all.
