Red Horse hosts benefit for Uvalde families

On June 26, the Red Horse Saloon presented a Musicfest to benefit the Uvalde victims and their families.
Volunteers contributed their time to assist, and local businesses donated their products, crafts and certificates, many in gift basket form. Owner Alana Smith raffled off the items to raise funds in addition to a separate 50/50 raffle.
The event, which ran from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., featured the musical talent of Josh Peek, Brendan Kyle, Steve Ingram, Brandon Nicholson, Mark Stewart, the Toman Brothers, and Rebel Roxie.
Local residents Kenneth and Charlene Seth cooked up cheeseburgers and stuffed potatoes on the outdoor deck grill while attendees enjoyed the band beats and stepped out on the dance floor.
A total of $3,240 was raised from the benefit. On June 28, Smith traveled to Uvalde to deposit the proceeds and make a somber visit to the site of the deadly shooting that occurred at Robb Elementary school.
Smith shared her sentiments: “I would personally like to thank each and every person who came to sing, support, volunteer, or just hang out. Our community never lets us down when one of our own needs help; and now Uvalde, super close to home, needs help. Bandera showed up and delivered once again. I’m so blessed to be a part of such a loving, beautiful community.
“Although these benefits take a lot of hard work, there hasn’t been one that was a let-down. It is worth every second of my time, and my employees and volunteers.
Tears are always shed at the end because we know that it is always successful. Uvalde will always be in our hearts and we are glad we could help in some sort of way.”
