Medina ISD hires new superintendent
On June 8, the Medina Independent School District (MISD) Board of Trustees entered into a three-year agreement with Lindsey Kunz for the Superintendent of the MISD position.
Kunz has served as the Principal of the Medina secondary school for the past four years. As she enters into her role as Superintendent, this will mark her 20th year in the education field. Prior to her work in Medina, she worked 15 years as a teacher and as a coach in Texas schools.
Kunz’s vision for the school is to instill a positive culture, a culture that is the best it can be.
“For a school of our size, with only 78 high school students, we offer a lot of programs like Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Future Farmers of America (FFA), and the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), where they are given the opportunity to compete at high levels,” said Kunz.
Kunz said students recently attended the TAFE nationals, where they were victorious.
“We want to always continue to elevate our game in all aspects of the educational system. Out of 19 seniors that graduated in 2022, seven graduated with a certification. It’s a good percentage and we want to continue to see an increase each year as we move forward.” said Kunz.
The Medina schools are an impressive community-withina- community. Comprised of a unique village-like compound that incorporates an elementary school for grades Pre-K through 5th and a secondary school for grades 6-12 on one large property, it includes all the typical resources that serve the needs of students and staff – and then some.
An agricultural science center, a commercial kitchen for culinary education, a community garden, and various programs set the students up for success while the fully-staffed district is committed to teaching and guiding the population of just 273 students in the entire school district (in 2021-22 school year).
With such a manageable population of students within this educational epicenter, it is no wonder that the students thrive.
According to Kunz, this year’s school theme will be INSPIRE.
“Its goal is to inspire all of those around us to succeed,” she said.
Kunz and her husband, David, have two children, Hallie, who will be a sophomore, and JT, who will be a seventh-grader.
As August 17th sets off the first day of the school year, Kunz shared, “I’m excited to be in this position and eager to see what this new year holds. I can’t wait for the students to come back so that we can get started on the new year. We want to make sure that we’re providing the best education we can for each student; supporting the MISD vision of preparing and motivating students to become meaningful citizens in today’s world. We have implemented new safety protocols over the last couple of years and we’ll continue those as we move forward.”
The Superintendent, who is the educational leader and chief executive of the district, will be provided an annual salary not less than $100,000 by the MISD.
