Barrel racing event growing in popularity
The Ridin’ on Faith Rodeo’s barrel racing event is still in its inaugural year, but that didn’t stop 25 racers from showing up earlier this month to compete. Troy and Karen Konvicka of Riding on Faith Rodeo said the Nov. 13 event was the second-to-last event of the year, and the final race of the season is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3.
“Local Barrel Racing folks wanted a place closer to home to use, and we made that happen,” said Troy. “We were going to have 10 Barrel Racing event this year but had to cancel because of the drought.”
Troy added the barrel races are something of a branch off from the regular rodeo events they host.
Their other regular events like bull riding and tie-down roping are in their sixth year while the barrel racing events are in their first year. The upcoming Dec. 3 event at Mansfield Park will also double as a sock drive for area seniors.
The race begins at 2 p.m and is an 80 percent payout. Five-dollar exhibitions are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
