Council elects municipal positions, narrows city marshal search
The Bandera City Council met at their monthly meeting on January 17, where they elected several people to new positions and provided an update regarding the application process for a new city marshal.
City Council member Jeff Flowers outlined the vetting advisory committee process for selecting the marshal candidates.
He said that there was good progress and the initial field of applicants was narrowed down to five candidates. Their first interview had been casual, and the next interview would be more formal.
Flowers said he felt the city had a good slate to choose from and remarked more discussion would come at a later meeting.
Municipal Court Judge Mike Towers, Municipal Court Clerk Jannett Piper, and Municipal Deputy Court Clerk Allyson Wright were sworn in to their positions.
Council officially approved the Deputy Municipal Court Clerk position.
Associate Municipal Court Judge Eino Zapata was not present.
Council heard an extensive presentation by Assah Al Kurdi and James Golab of Texas Water Development on water longevity assessment. Al Kurdi presented information on the current wells and well development.
Jonathon Teafatiller from Adurra Engineering presented on current city projects, grants and future grant opportunities.
Discussion on erecting wayfinding signs on city-owned property was tabled.
Council discussed who would be responsible to be community liaisons to the various community organizations.
City Manager William Cox and Jonathon Teafatiller gave an update on the review of the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances and Fee Comparisons.
Both said the low level of the fee structure was costing the city money and recommended further study going forward. They presented information from other area cities’ fee structures, and Bandera was very low in comparison to those fee structures.
The City Administrator’s Report covered an update regarding land acquisition for a new wastewater treatment plant, a financial update, and a report on the progress of the smart water meter installation.
