EVELYN LORRAINE “SNOOKIE” BOSWELL HALLIDAY
EVELYN LORRAINE “SNOOKIE” BOSWELL HALLIDAY Snookie was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 23, 1930. She went to be with Jesus Friday, May 12, 2023 with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years John T. Halliday, on February 25, 1993.
After graduating from Brackenridge High School, Snookie went to work at the downtown Sears on Main Ave. She worked in the record department, that’s right, the original vinyl records. This began her love for music of all genres. I think she bought every new record that was released while she worked at Sears.
It was at Sears she met John T. Halliday Jr. when he and his family came into town to shop on Saturdays. I believe it was love at first sight for them both. They were married June 10, 1951.
After years of trying and being told they would never have children, their prayers were answered and a miracle happened! They were blessed with their only child, Sharon Elaine Halliday.
Besides the love of her husband, daughter, and grandsons Zane and Austin, Snookie loved dancing. She danced in stilettos and fabulous dresses that would swing and twirl as she and Daddy floated across any dance room floor. She was a fashionista and wore the most stunning dance clothes and beautiful church clothes. I guess one could say she was always “dressed to the nines”. This all changed after she experienced a devastating cat bite in 2017. After months of recovery, she was no longer able to dance or drive.
When she moved in with me in 2022, she had shoes, purses, clutches, ballroom dancing dresses, dance shoes, and church clothes too many to count! Oh, let us not forget she had fourteen or fifteen “cute little” white jackets. By the way Mama did insist on keeping several of each!
After her recovery, Snookie could no longer go to church, so she began donating to A Doggie 4 You, a local 501C organization because of her lifelong love and caring of animals. She requested in lieu of flowers please make a donation to A Doggie 4 You in her name. Address is listed below.
Snookie’s Escorts will be grandsons Zane and Austin Edwards; niece, Pamela Tietze Piper; nephew, Ronnie Chatfield; and longtime friends, John Clark and Daniel Pompa; with her cousin Rennie Crowell being an Honorary Escort. Nephew Scott Green will conduct her final farewell at the graveside.
We would like to thank Nicole, with Alamo Hospice for her compassionate and excellent care the past month.
