July 4 Pet Parde sets record attendance
The 27th annual Bandera Pet Parade drew its largest crowd ever, thanks to temperate weather on July 4. Held at Bandera City Park, the 10 a.m. parade saw a record turnout, with over 40 entries participating.
Pet owners from near and far flocked to the pet-friendly event, which has gained national recognition as one of the top five July 4th pet parades in the country, as listed on two national websites.
Sponsored by the Cowboy Capital Pet Assistance League (CCPAL), the event offered complimentary bottled water for all attendees and featured dog treats provided by long-time parade sponsor, the Barrel House.
A faithful CCPAL volunteer conducted a gift basket giveaway for lucky parade-goers, while the parade itself was emceed by local musical duo Laurie and Sally Gibson, owners of Pawdners Pooch and Puss Grooming of Bandera. The lively duo entertained the crowd with a multitude of pet-themed “dad jokes.”
The coveted Best in Show Award was bestowed upon Francine, a Jack Russell terrier, who showcased her patriotic attire and spunky personality during the parade.
The Most Creative Award went to Chow Lucille and Terrier mix Daisy, who delighted spectators as a carhop and a packet of French fries.
In the Star-Spangled category, first prize went to Elsa and Lilo, a Scottie and a Westie, while the Lookalike category was won by LadyBug, a Min Pin dressed as a cupcake.
Moon Pie Adele, a Goldendoodle, took home the top prize in the Most Talented category.
Other winners included Dorothy Walker with her stuffed animal Gerry Giraffe for Most Original Pet, and Penny the Shepherd, who dressed as Scooby Doo, winning the Storybook Character category.
The Bandera Pet Parade, held annually at Bandera City Park by the Medina River, has become a beloved family-friendly event.
Attendees from as far as Arkansas and Oklahoma made their way to the parade, drawn by its reputation and free admission.
Even pets who arrived too late for judging had a wonderful time strolling the parade route and receiving admiration from all.
