Searchers Tuesday afternoon recovered the body of a 20-year-old motorist after rising floodwaters swept his vehicle off the road the day before.

First responders located the man about 2 p.m.,  more than five miles from where his vehicle had initially left Park Road 37.

His identity has not been released.

Agencies from Medina, Bexar and Bandera counties took part in the search, which began Monday, Nov. 4, after Medina County dispatchers received a call about 9 p.m. from an individual trapped in a vehicle caught in the deluge.

Officials said he was on his way from work when the incident occurred.

A flash flood warning had been issued for the area.

Responders from Medina County Emergency Services District 1, working with Bexar and Bandera counties, found the vehicle at 11 p.m. Monday, about 1.5 miles downstream, but it was unoccupied.

After calling off the search at 2 a.m. Tuesday, crews from multiple agencies resumed their efforts five hours later.

"Our condolences are with the family during this difficult time," read a Facebook post from the Medina County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the victim’s family had been notified.

“While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, we are extremely proud of the men and women who worked tirelessly to provide closure for the family,” read a post from Medina County EMS.
