The Bandera County Historical Commission oversees the process by which historical markers are applied for and designated by the Texas Historical Commission.
But almost nobody remembers to visit the markers and see how they’re doing once they are in place, especially the ones located outside Bandera city limits. BCHC is seeking to change that by sponsoring a contest involving all 43 historical markers in Bandera County. BCHC urges you to locate and visit as many of Bandera County’s historical markers as you can before the end of 2024. Much useful information, including maps, can be found on the app, Texas Historical Marker Guide.
Take photos, including selfies, and make note of whether the marker and surrounding area are well cared for. We’d also like to know if the marker is where it’s supposed to be according to the app, and if you had trouble finding it.
We will share your photos if you post them on your Facebook page and add the page mention: @ Bandera County Historical Commission.
Prizes will be awarded for Most Markers Visited and Most Creative Photo. Have you hugged a historical marker today?
