One of the newest businesses in town, Bandera Jewelers, opened its doors to a huge crowd on its opening day festivities.

The Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony attracted more than 60 people to the new shop at 660 Hwy 16 in the strip mall center next to the Trump Store.

Owners Tabitha and Jordan Marcum eagerly welcomed the crowd with a buffet and plenty of door prizes.

Nearly everyone walked away with a discount coupon or some small jewelry piece from the shop.

Since the 2012 retirement of Mrs. Esther Everett after 65 years in business on Main Street, a general jewelry store has been missing in Bandera.

Bandera Jewelers intends to make up for that lack. Bandera Jewelry is a family business and all the family have worked together to make it a successful venture.

Bandera Jewelers will do jewelry cleaning for free, will do watch battery replacement, and jewelry repairs as well as stocking a line of custom-made pieces.

The store will feature a line of Bandera inspired jewelry to tempt locals and visitors. The couple plan to offer high school graduation class rings as well. Marcum also sells and repairs Rolex watches.

The Marcums support shopping locally and give 20% discounts to active-duty military, veterans, first responders, teachers and other service personnel.

The couple also intend to get involved in local activities to show their support for the community.

While Jordan is from Illinois, Tabitha is a hometown girl. She went to Alkek Elementary and graduated from Bandera High School. Tabith and Jordan met in 2016. Daughter Celestial also attends school at the Vineyard of God Private School.

After living in San Antonio, they decided to make Bandera their home.

Jeweler Jordan Marcum is as focused and intense a person about his craft as anyone can be. He talks about getting in his “zone” and working on pieces for hours.

He works with customers at a computer station to design their own jewelry. He states that jewelry is his passion. Pictures on the walls show the different lines of jewelry he sells.

Marcum credits his pastor as being his biggest influence. Frequently citing Brother DiSeno as the inspiration for his work ethic and customer care, Jordan Marcum is steeped in a strong business background.

He has been trading in gold and silver since he was a teenager and haunting pawn shops looking for good deals.

He is enthusiastic about the precious metals market and keeps a careful eye on the prices both nationally and internationally.

“Gold is at an all time high, right now,” he says. “Silver is more volatile, but gold is stable.”

Marcum also buys and sells bullion and can advise on the trading of precious metals.

Diamonds are Jordan’s favorite stones to incorporate in his jewelry. His passion has made him an expert in diamonds. Marcum stated at the opening, “I’d like to thank you guys for showing up. I have worked awful hard for a lot of years, it’s a blessing to see everything coming together and to be able to serve the community. When I was originally coming here, I was looking for a jewelry store to work at. My passion is working with jewelry and serving the community. I love Bandera. I really don’t know anything else to say, but welcome.”

Bandera Jewelers is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM.
