A Bandera County jury convicted a former music school owner Gareth Goode of Fair Oaks Ranch on multiple counts of child sexual abuse, resulting in a 40-year prison sentence handed down by 198th District Court Judge Patrick Maguire.
The case, tried in Bandera County due to the victims’ local ties, concluded September 26 with the 47-year-old Goode found guilty on two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Goode’s sentencing, delivered shortly after the verdict, includes two 20-year terms for the indecency charges, to be served concurrently, followed by an additional 20-year term for the aggravated sexual assault charge.
This means Goode will serve 40 years in total, beginning with the concurrent sentences and followed by the consecutive term.
The charges stem from a June 2021 accusation, when a Bandera County woman reported to authorities that her daughter had been sexually assaulted.
According to court documents, Deputy John Broderick received the report on June 8, 2023, leading to an investigation that culminated in Goode’s arrest in Boerne on January 20, 2023.
His arrest came shortly after a Bandera County grand jury issued an indictment on January 10, 2024.
Assistant District Attorney Ben Rosenbach, who prosecuted the case, noted that the jury took just over an hour to reach a unanimous guilty verdict.
Rosenbach also highlighted that the judge imposed the maximum sentence for each charge, which carries a range of two to 20 years in state prison.
Though Goode had prior run-ins with the law, including convictions for driving while intoxicated in 1999 and 2011, this marks the first time he has faced felony charges in Texas.
