Organist hosting All Hallows’ Day concert

Dr. Sabrina Adrian, organist at First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville, will perform a free All Hallows’ Day Pipe Organ Concert on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at 4 p.m.

The event is open to the public. Adrian, known for her engaging and spiritual performances, promises a lighthearted and inclusive concert for “saints and sinners” alike. “When I play A Mighty Fortress with the choir and congregation, it feels like we’re reaching the heavens,” she said. “Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor connects me to eternity, reminding me I’m part of something greater.”

The concert’s repertoire will feature a variety of pieces, including Comes Autumn Time by Leo Sowerby, jazzy hymn arrangements by George Shearing, and a tribute to El Dia de los Muertos with Noel Goemanne’s El Dia de Fiesta.

Additional selections will include preludes by César Franck and Sergei Rachmaninoff, a toccata or two, and Paradise by Daniel Lesur.

The performance will showcase the church’s 2006 Jehmlich organ, an instrument with 55 ranks and 3,500 pipes, renowned for its acoustic richness.

“I cherish the opportunity to share the glorious sounds of the Jehmlich pipe organ with the Hill Country community,” Adrian added.

Dr. Adrian holds music and organ performance degrees from Southwestern University, UTSA, and UT-Austin, and has been a church organist since her teens.
