Bandera County celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Bandera County Boys and Girls Clubs facility on Elm Street in Bandera.
Every county first responder department had representation at the event.
The different organizations set up booths to distribute literature and souvenirs.
Bandera Electric Company brought their trucks that advertised their fiber services. They provided several lawn games and cookies for the patrons. Their large American flag provided patriotic flavor for the event.
The Bandera County Sheriff’department cooked hot dogs and hamburgers for the crowd. The smell of grilling burgers attracted many patrons to come over and sample the flavorful snacks.
The Sheriff’s Department booth, staffed by Deputies Birdie Tyler and Bryan Skelly, was a great place for kids to pick up small trinkets. Jailers Palumbo and Orosz also helped out at the Sheriff’s booth.
The Emergency Management Department’s booth, presented by Director Judy Lafevers and her husband, provided lots of information and plenty of treats for the kids. Their whistles were the hit of the event.
Bandera County EMTs and Game Warden Brent Deen strolled around chatting with citizens. The Silver Sage was represented by Project Manager Garl Tharp.
Bandera Marshal Nancy DeFoster and husband Orlando fired up the cotton candy machine and youngsters came by to sample the sweet treats being given out. The National Night Out was a great time to stroll through and get to know the county and city service workers and first responders.
In Texas, it is celebrated on the first Tuesday in October.
The National Night Out began as an effort to develop police-community relationships, originating in 1984 in the western Philadelphia suburbs.
