Medina ISD celebrated Homecoming 2024 with a week of spirited events, honoring the decades from the ‘50s, ‘70s, and ‘80s from Oct. 21–25. Students showed their Bobcats and Lady Cats pride each day, dressing up in era-themed attire.
The after-school festivities kicked off with the annual Medina Tailgate Party on Wednesday afternoon, featuring a feast of hot dogs, pizza, chili, and barbecue to ensure no one left hungry. Following the tailgate, a community pep rally and the traditional burning of the “M” took place. Seniors Hallie Kunz and Cody Swinney were crowned Football Sweetheart and Cheerleader Beau during the event.
Friday’s events began at 4 p.m. with the Lady Cat volleyball team hosting the Utopia Lady Buffs. Medina took the match in four sets, with scores of 24-26, 25-14, 25-20, and 25-22, improving their overall record to 27-5.
The volleyball match was followed by the Homecoming Coronation, showcasing class representatives from Pre-K through the senior class. Students and parents cheered as classmates and children walked onto the football field. Seniors Makenna Gourley and Chris Charnetski were named the 2024 Homecoming Queen and King, concluding the coronation. Then it was time for Bobcat football. The game began with the National Anthem and a special release of white doves by community member Harvey Young. The Bobcats played aggressively on both offense and defense, holding off the Eden Bulldogs with a 47-43 victory.
“It’s a great day when we all win!” exclaimed Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator Mark Coley, sharing an enthusiastic fist pump with the other coaches after the game.
Homecoming festivities continued on Saturday morning with a community parade, carnival, alumni program, and dance, drawing large crowds and plenty of smiles.
Medina ISD extends thanks to the Medina PTO, staff, students, and the entire Medina community for their work and support in making Homecoming 2024 a success.
