LIBRARY ENCOURAGES LITERACY

The Medina Community Library hosted an Oct. 24 event attended by nine families with young children featuring guest speaker Kailin Carr, known as the 'Quiet Book Queen.'

Carr discussed the importance of limiting screen time and promoting outdoor play, while also introducing parents to the concept of 'busy bags.'

Participants took part in a hands-on 'make and take' session, where they created busy bags filled with activities focusing on lacing, beginning sounds, and basic addition.

Each family received free books and additional busy bags prepared by volunteers, which included games on matching shapes, matching shadows, and finger dexterity exercises.

Following the activities, children who had been playing joined their parents for a pizza dinner.
