Annual Veterans Day celebration scheduled for Saturday
Courtesy Photos Attendees of the 2023 Bandera Honors Veterans event display their gratitude and patriotism during the parade down Main Street. This year’s event is scheduled for Nov. 9 at the Bandera County Courthouse.

Veterans Day is November 11th and a reminder to honor those who serve and have served our nation in the armed forces.

Citizens just enjoyed the privilege and right to vote and the freedom to talk about it. We owe the protection of these rights and the rest of the U.S. Constitution to all who have honorably worn the uniform of our military services.

Bandera Honors Veterans celebrates their service and sacrifice, as well as their survivors and family members, with four events on November 9, starting at the Bandera County Courthouse.

Bandera American Legion Post 157 is the host for the day.

Family and military displays open at 9:30 a.m. Those who want to bring their military memorabilia should contact Dennis at BanderaAL157@gmail. com or 830-796-7528.

The ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Ranch Radio’s Army veteran and personality, J.R. Zowie.

Command Chief Master Sergeant Roy Boudreaux, a Vietnam era veteran, will be the guest speaker.

The San Antonio Pipe & Drum, David Main and Jennifer D’ Spain will provide musical highlights.

The Bandera High School Naval Junior ROTC, Trail Life, Boy Scouts and American Heritage Girls will be assisting the Legion volunteers.

All veterans are welcome to board the Veterans Float at the courthouse following the program.

They will lead the parade with the Joint Base San Antonio Color Guard which steps off at 12:00 p.m.

Several World War II veterans are scheduled to join the parade: Buck Sloan and Wally Snyder.

All other parade participants will line up at the Bandera City Park at 9:30 a.m. There is still time to enter by contacting Gary at 717-679-4434.

Veterans and their spouses are invited to enjoy a barbeque lunch and meet fellow veterans on the Courthouse lawn at 1:00 p.m. It is catered by U.S. Navy veteran, James Moore, owner of JM Baked Goods.

“The valor and courage of our young women and men in the armed services are a shining example to all the world, and we owe them and their families our deepest respect” (Bill Frist).

Bandera Honors Veterans provides the opportunity to put out your U.S. flag and salute our military and veterans by attending and lining the parade route.
