The community has rallied to support the Waid family after a tragic head-on collision on Tuesday, Nov. 1, claimed the lives of three Pipe Creek residents on Texas Highway 46 near Boerne.

Roger Waid, 50, Patricia Waid, 53, and their 14-yearold daughter, Blake, were pronounced dead at the scene after a Ford F-250 attempted to pass other vehicles in a no-passing zone, colliding with their Toyota Corolla.

The driver of the F-250 was taken to a San Antonio hospital, with no update yet on his condition.

The crash, reported at 7:46 p.m. Nov. 1, remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses say the truck was passing vehicles along the two-lane stretch before crossing into the Waid vehicle’s path.

Community reaction has been swift, with friends, family, and neighbors organizing multiple forms of support. A GoFundMe page, launched by Schreiner University in support of the Waid’s son Barrett, 19, has raised just under $100,000 at press time.

The page describes Barrett as a member of Schreiner’s baseball team, now facing unimaginable loss alongside his sister, Brooke, 27.

“The Schreiner University baseball team comes together with heavy hearts to support our teammate,” reads the GoFundMe page, which surpassed $10,000 within hours and has continued to climb steadily. “We want to rally around him and offer our support,” the page continues. Donations have ranged from $5 to $1,000, reflecting strong community involvement.

In addition to the fundraising efforts, a meal train has been organized to assist Barrett and Brooke as they adjust to this difficult time. Community members are encouraged to sign up online to help provide meals for the family and visitors over the coming weeks.

A benefit concert is planned for Dec. 1 at Pipe Creek Dance Hall, running from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., with proceeds going to the Waid family. Organizers are still accepting donations for a silent auction and bake sale volunteers.

Local organizations have expressed grief for the Waid family’s loss.

Bandera Independent School District acknowledged Blake’s presence on the middle school basketball and volleyball teams, sharing condolences for her absence in the community.

Bandera Public Library Director Paul Phelan also paid tribute to Patricia Waid, who was an employee at The Hen’s Nest and known for her involvement in library storytime events.

“Mrs. Patricia was loved by her coworkers and storytime pupils alike,” Phelan said in a library Facebook post, sharing a video of her reading to children. “Her enthusiasm and compassion for others will be truly missed. Please keep the Waid family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this tragedy.”

The community continues to show solidarity for the Waid family, organizing prayer gatherings, balloon releases, and additional fundraisers.

Donations for the family are still being accepted through GoFundMe at gofundme.com/f/support-for-thewaid- family, and those interested in contributing meals can visit the meal train at mealtrain.com/trains/87r882.
