Medina teenager John Hutzler, 14, and his mother, Stacie Hutzler, 52, competed in the Lifetime Austin Rattler Trail Run at Reveille Peak Ranch outside Burnet on Saturday, Nov. 2. John placed third overall in the men’s 10-mile race and first in the men’s 29-and-under division. Stacie finished second in the women’s 5059 division.
The pair also ran in the South Texas Ultra 17k Trail Run at HW Lewis Ranch in Leakey on Oct. 12, where John placed seventh overall and first in the under-20 class, while Stacie again finished second in the W50-59 division.
John, Stacie, and father and husband Bryan are often seen running or cycling on roads around Medina and Bandera as part of their training. While the family tries to avoid roads without shoulders, the layout of Bandera County roads occasionally necessitates using certain sections. They thank motorists who are considerate of runners and cyclists along the Texas Hill Country highways and remind that while runners and cyclists may be a slight inconvenience to motorists, a distracted motorist can be life-threatening to them.
