The Bandera Middle School Lady Bulldogs basketball teams kicked off their season with thrilling victories against Pearsall. Here’s a recap of the action: 8th Grade A Team
The 8th-grade Lady Bulldog A team edged Pearsall in a hard-fought game, winning 35-31. Bandera maintained a slim lead for most of the matchup, thanks to sharp shooting from Brooke Montelongo, Blu Rollo, and Rehnahta Gomez. A relentless fullcourt press created numerous steal opportunities, with Gracen Spruell, Montelongo, and Elizabeth D’Spain leading the defensive charge. The Bulldogs will travel to Carrizo Springs next week, aiming to build on their early success.
8th Grade B Team
The 8th-grade B team secured a solid 16-8 victory over Pearsall. Makayla Clay powered the offense with fast-break scoring, establishing a double-digit lead early in the game. Defensively, Riley Boyd shone with 7 steals, while Emma McClintock grabbed 3 rebounds to prevent second- chance points. The team begins the season with an undefeated record of 1-0.
7th Grade A Team
The 7th-grade A team began their season with a nail-biting 15-13 victory against Pearsall. Despite limited practice time, the Lady Bulldogs’ determination paid off in an exciting finish. Key contributors included June Flowers (6 points), Vanessa Gonzalez (3 points), and Harper Hicks, Colbie Lalanne, and Karina Young, each adding 2 points. Defensively, Gonzalez recorded an impressive 15 steals, while Hicks contributed 9. Coach Nelson expressed excitement about the team’s potential for the rest of the season.
7th Grade B Team
The 7th-grade B team rounded out the night with a narrow 12-10 win. Michelle Melton led the offense with 6 points, while Kaycee Putney, Emma Jayde Spofford, and Mika Gray each scored 2 points. On defense, Spofford recorded 7 steals, and Aspen Collazo dominated the boards with 3 rebounds. The girls overcame early nerves and showed great promise for an exciting season ahead.
