“INCLUDING MYSELF, HAVE SENT YOU COUNTLESS REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION ABOUT DHS’S POLICIES AND ACTIONS RELATED TO
BORDER SECURITY”
Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) called on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) last Wednesday, Dec. 4, to preserve all records and data related to the Biden administration’s border policies and the handling of migrants released into U.S. communities.
In a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Roy emphasized the need for transparency and accountability regarding the border, stating that numerous requests for information from members of Congress have gone unanswered or received delayed and insufficient responses.
“Since February 2021, Members of Congress, including myself, have sent you countless requests for information about DHS’s policies and actions related to border security, immigration, and national security, only to receive – at best – delayed and insufficient responses or – at worst – no response from your office at all,” Roy wrote.
Roy cited record-breaking numbers of illegal border crossings, the release of millions of migrants into the U.S. interior, and potential threats posed by criminals and others he claims infiltrated communities under current policies.
He urged DHS to retain all documentation related to the border crisis to ensure oversight continuity, particularly in anticipation of a potential change in administration.
Roy stated that preserving records would allow a future administration to 'undo the damage done' by current policies.

specific data requests, including the number of migrants released into the U.S., details about their asylum processes, criminal histories, gang affiliations, and information on individuals with ties to foreign adversaries.
He also called for transparency on funding provided to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) assisting migrants.
“It is imperative DHS preserve any and all information related to the border crisis and mass influx of aliens into the interior,” Roy wrote, requesting confirmation of compliance with his demands by Dec. 18, 2024.
This letter is the latest in Roy’s ongoing criticism of the administration’s immigration policies, which he argues have jeopardized national security and strained border communities.
DHS has not yet responded to the letter and did not respond to the Bulletin’s request for comment.
