The Medina Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted the annual Medina Athletic Booster Club Varsity Basketball Tournament from Dec. 12-14, with both teams competing fiercely on their home court.
The Lady Cats opened their tournament play with a win over Bandera JV, advancing to the winner’s bracket. However, they suffered a narrow 3432 loss to Menard’s Lady Jackets in a tightly contested matchup Thursday night.
The defeat sent them to the third-place game on Saturday, where they rebounded with a decisive 44-25 victory over Somerset Academy.
Junior Audrey Gatlin showcased her sharpshooting skills, winning the tournament’s 3-point contest with a 40% shooting average. Senior Hallie Kunz earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for her standout performance. On the boys' side, the Bobcats endured a fivepoint loss to Bandera JV in their opener but bounced back with a win over Comfort JV to reach the consolation game on Saturday.
In a hard-fought battle against Brackett High School, the Bobcats fell short, losing by nine points.
Sophomore Zy’Heme Jones represented the Bobcats on the All-Tournament Team for his efforts throughout the weekend.
Both the Lady Cats and Bobcats return to action at home on Friday, Dec. 20, facing district rival Rocksprings.
