Governor announces over $500 million in public safety grants

Governor Greg Abbott announced today that his Public Safety Office (PSO) will distribute more than $500 million in grants to support a wide range of public safety initiatives across Texas.

The funding, sourced from federal and state budgets, will aid efforts including border security, anti-human trafficking programs, law enforcement support, and victim services.

“Ensuring the safety and security of Texans is our top priority,” said Governor Abbott. “These grants provide essential funding to strengthen Texas agencies and organizations in their mission to secure the border, combat human trafficking, support victims, and protect communities from violent criminals.”

The grants include:

• Body-Worn Cameras: $4.6 million for 98 awards to equip officers with investigative tools.

• Border Fire Zone Support: $3.1 million for 22 awards to provide emergency equipment in border regions.

• Bullet Resistant Shields and Vests:

$6.7 million for 213 awards to enhance officer safety.

• Human Trafficking Services:

$24.8 million for 46 awards supporting survivors and prevention programs.

• Homeland Security: $56.5 million for 316 awards to prevent terrorism and enhance emergency preparedness.

• Victim Services and Violence Against Women Programs: $194.9 million for 509 awards to aid victims and improve the justice system.

Other funding areas include cybersecurity, crime prevention, forensic science, substance abuse treatment, and school safety programs.

PSO coordinates these grants in partnership with state and regional agencies, including the 24 regional Councils of Governments and Urban Area Working Groups in major Texas metro areas. Interested organizations can find grant details and application information on the Governor’s eGrants website.
