Texas State Parks has released its 2024 collectible ornament, a tribute to Old Tunnel State Park and its famous bat population, now available for $19.95.
The ornament can be purchased online or at state parks, with free shipping offered through the Texas State Parks Online Store.
This year’s design highlights Old Tunnel, the state’s smallest park, which serves as a seasonal home to up to 3 million Mexican free-tailed bats and 3,000 cave myotis bats from May through October.
The ornament features a depiction of bats emerging from the tunnel, celebrating the park’s unique ecological importance and offering a charming addition to holiday décor.
Proceeds from sales support Texas State Parks and their ongoing programs.
To celebrate the new release, Texas State Parks is hosting a Facebook contest, giving participants a chance to win the 2024 ornament.
To enter, commenters must answer the question: “Which Texas state park would you recommend for a holiday getaway, and why?”
Entries are open until Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. Central. Official rules can be found on the promotion rules webpage.
Since 2002, the Texas State Parks ornament program has highlighted the natural, cultural, and historical resources preserved within the park system.
Each year’s design captures unique elements of the state’s parks, from historic landmarks to native wildlife.
A complete collection of past ornaments is available to view on the Texas State Parks website.
