The Lakehills Community Center transformed into a bustling first-century village earlier this month as Hill Country Samaritan’s Purse hosted its annual Bethlehem Under the Stars event.
The outdoor living display brought the Christmas story to life, captivating attendees with period costumes, live animals, and hands-on activities.
Visitors were welcomed by volunteers in traditional attire who engaged with guests and invited them to explore the bustling marketplace.
The market featured artisans and tradespeople such as blacksmiths, carpenters, bakers, weavers, and potters, who demonstrated their crafts and offered giveaways like ornaments, wood carvings, and spices.
Guests sampled foods like bread, honey, fruits, and nuts while creating handmade crafts.
Adding to the immersive experience were live animals, including a camel, goats, a donkey, and chickens, alongside displays of the inn, temple, and tax collector’s office.
Portrayals of Joseph, Mary, baby Jesus, and Roman soldiers completed the historical reenactment.
The event ran on December 13 and 14 from 6 to 8 p.m., with a children’s choir opening the evenings with festive songs.
Visitors also enjoyed hot cocoa and snacks, rounding out the family-friendly celebration of the season.
