Travel show highlighting Bandera ranch, Mardi Gras

Staycation, an Emmy Award-winning travel series, is coming to Bandera as part of its upcoming third season.

The show will showcase the Doe Creek Horse Ranch Vacation Rental and the town’s iconic Cowboy Mardi Gras event, putting the “Cowboy Capital of the World” on a national stage.

The episode, set to air in May 2025, marks a significant milestone for Bandera. According to Spencer Forrest, owner of Backroads Reservations, the decision to feature the town came after weeks of pitching Bandera’s unique charm to the production team.

“Initially, they were focused on filming in San Antonio and wouldn’t venture more than 30 miles outside the city,” Forrest said. “After highlighting the Cowboy Mardi Gras event, I was able to convince them to experience our community and its one-of-akind appeal.”

Forrest said the Doe Creek Horse Ranch Vacation Rental, selected as a filming location, embodies the rustic and Western charm Bandera is known for. T The property offers eight acres of gated land just minutes from downtown Bandera. Guests can enjoy amenities such as two patios for wildlife watching, a ranch-style outdoor soaking tub and a barn equipped for equestrian activities, including a lighted 60-foot round pen and horse stalls.

In addition to its charm, the upcoming Cowboy Mardi Gras event played a pivotal role in attracting the production team.

The Staycation crew will capture the event on Feb. 22, 2025, bringing its energy and traditions to a national audience.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Bandera to shine,” Forrest said. “With an audience of up to a million viewers per episode, Staycation will highlight the Texas Hill Country, our town, and our local businesses in an incredible way.”

Staycation, airing on The Destination Channel, features unique vacation rentals and destinations worldwide. Past episodes have showcased locations such as Lake Tahoe, Costa Rica, and Cabo San Lucas.

Forrest expressed gratitude for the community’s support and encouraged locals to help spread the word.

“This is a chance for Bandera to gain the recognition it deserves. Thank you for supporting our local businesses and being part of this special moment,” he said.
