The Lakehills United Methodist Church (LUMC) has partnered with Wrench-A-Part, a car salvage yard in San Antonio, to launch a unique fundraising initiative called “Junkers for Jesus.”

The program allows residents in the 78063 and 78056 area codes to donate old or junk vehicles to the church. In return, Wrench-A-Part will haul away the vehicles at no cost to the donor and issue a check to LUMC for the donation.

Donors can also request a tax-deductible receipt from the church.

“This is a win-win-win for our community,” said an LUMC spokesperson. “It’s a way to clean up your property, help the church, and support programs that assist local families in need.”

To participate, vehicles must have a title, be accessible for towing, and contain some reusable or recyclable parts. Donations can include cars or trucks that may have been sitting unused for years.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will support LUMC’s community outreach programs, which include: Food for Friends Food Pantry: Open twice a month to assist families experiencing food insecurity.

Bread of Life Meals: Weekly Monday dinners that serve 150-200 people.

After-School Care: A program providing meals and snacks for local children.

“These programs are vital to our mission, and donations through ‘Junkers for Jesus’ will help ensure we can continue serving the community,” the spokesperson said.

To donate a vehicle or learn more about the program, contact LUMC at (830) 7512404 or email [email protected].
