On Saturday, January 18th, the Frontier Times Museum invites families to enjoy a day of wool-themed fun, celebrating Bandera’s rich wool and mohair industry. The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and features activities for all ages, including arts and crafts, demonstrations, and an engaging author’s talk.
A Tradition Woven in Time Bandera has a proud history as a leading exporter of wool and mohair. This legacy continues today with ranches like Naumann Angoras, run by Dale and Bonnie Naumann, and Sheepwalk Ranch, managed by Jennifer Nimmrichter.
At 1:00 p.m., author Robert Aguero will share stories from his book, Sheering Sheep and Angora Goats: The Texas Way. Drawing from personal experience and interviews, Aguero will explore the fading tradition of tasinques— itinerant shearers whose work once fueled this vital industry.
Hands-On Demonstrations Learn how raw wool transforms into beautiful yarn! From 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Jennifer Nimmrichter will showcase tools and techniques used in the process, along with examples of raw wool.
At 2:00 p.m., witness a live sheep-shearing demonstration that brings this heritage to life.
